![]() Beathard and Nick Mullens in front of him, Heneghan was considered a long shot to make the roster. After spending most of the preseason on the sidelines, Heneghan got his chance to play in the preseason finale Thursday night against the Chargers and performed well, going 8-of-9 for 58 yards while carrying the ball twice for 17 yards. * Quarterback Jack Heneghan - A native of the Bay Area, Heneghan joined the 49ers in the spring as an undrafted signing out of Dartmouth. Sutton joined the league as a third-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2014 out of Arizona State and also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings. * Defensive tackle Will Sutton - Sutton was signed by the 49ers in late July to add depth to the defensive tackle position but was a long shot to make the roster. Saxton caught one pass for 14 yards along with a two-point conversion during the preseason. The 49ers were his fifth NFL team since 2015, along with the Jets, Redskins, Bills, and Lions. * Tight end Wes Saxton - Saxton was signed in the preseason to add depth to the tight end position due to injuries. He did not get a chance to play in the preseason finale against the Chargers. * Running back Ja'Quan Gardner - A product of Humboldt State, where he rushed for over 5,000 yards, Gardner was signed earlier in the week to add running back depth due to injury. He suffered a season-ending injury in November of 2017, then was brought back in late July for another training camp and preseason stint. * Offensive lineman JP Flynn - Flynn was an undrafted signing of the 49ers out of Montana State last season and wound up on the practice squad after missing the cut for the 53-man roster. The 49ers gave Pinion the nod after he averaged 41.3 yards on nine punts during the preseason. * Punter Jeff Locke ( reported by Matt Barrows/The Athletic) - Locke, who has five seasons of punting experience with the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, and Indianapolis Colts, was brought in over the offseason to compete with Bradley Pinion for the starting job. Robinson's release, according to, clears $2.05 million in cap space for the 49ers. But with players such as second-round draft pick Dante Pettis and seventh-round draft pick Richie James added to the roster in the offseason, Robinson has long been viewed as a player who would be in for a challenge in winning a roster spot this year. * Wide receiver Aldrick Robinson ( reported by Matt Maiocco/NBC Sports Bay Area) - Robinson, who was signed to a two-year deal by the 49ers before the 2017 season, caught 19 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns last year. He played in multiple different spots across the offensive line during the preseason. * Offensive lineman Pace Murphy ( reported by Matt Barrows/The Athletic) - Murphy, who played with the Rams in 2016 as an undrafted rookie out of Northwestern State, spent time on the 49ers practice squad last season. He had some struggles in the final preseason game against the Chargers. ( reported by Matt Barrows/The Athletic) - Williams was an undrafted signing of the 49ers last year and saw some time on the 53-man roster (played in seven games) as well as on the practice squad. He was listed as a fourth-teamer on the depth chart. * Offensive lineman Chris Gonzalez ( reported by Matt Maiocco/NBC Sports Bay Area) - Gonzalez is an undrafted rookie who was added to the roster earlier in camp when the team waived undrafted defensive back Corey Griffin. The likelihood of him making the first 53-man roster of 2018 was slim due to him being a late addition with depth already established in front of him. He played with the 49ers in 2016 and was re-signed for the 2017 season, but wound up sitting out the season due to an injury. * Defensive lineman Chris Jones ( reported by Matt Maiocco/NBC Sports Bay Area) - Jones was recently added to the roster for depth after the retirement of veteran Cedric Thornton. He didn't produce much during preseason games, rushing for 45 yards on 19 carries before sustaining a rib injury in Week 3 of the preseason against Indianapolis. After being selected in the fourth round of the draft last year, Williams spent his first season on injured reserve while working to prepare himself for a run at a roster spot this year. * Running back Joe Williams ( reported by Tom Pelissero/NFL Network) - Williams becomes the first member of the 2017 49ers draft class to be waived. Most of the cuts were reported earlier in the day, with a few new cuts added to the list with their official announcement. The San Francisco 49ers officially announced 12 roster cuts Friday, trimming their roster to 77 before Saturday's 1 p.m. No portion of this site may be reproduced without the express written permission of the Las Vegas Raiders.Jack Heneghan (Photo: Stan Szeto, USA TODAY Sports)
